Description
Chico is a rooster built entirely from broken plates. Donna Lee Oduber cut each feather from a different dish, so his tail fans out in florals, butterflies, mandalas, zebra stripes and even a leopard print, all set against glossy black penny tiles in a cream-painted wooden frame.
Picassiette: a second life for broken china
Chico is made with picassiette, a mosaic technique that builds a picture from pieces of plates and ceramics instead of new tiles. Every shard keeps its original pattern. That is why no two feathers look alike, and why no other piece will ever look like this one.
One of a kind
Chico is an original, not an edition. There is only one, and the piece in the photos is the piece you receive. The layered edges of the plates catch the light differently through the day, something photos can only hint at.
